Introduction

AWKIRA is a pre-emergent herbicide for the management of resistant Phalaris minor in wheat.

Method of Application

  • Application should be done within 0-3 days of sowing.
  • Pre emergent Soil application using a knapsack sprayer fitted with a flat fan nozzle /PI spray machine.
  • Apply the herbicide with the recommended quantity of water.
  • Field should be uniform, well prepared and free from clods and residues of previous crops.
  • Ensure thorough application on soil surface using water volume of 200 litre for 1 acre.
  • Ensure first irrigation at 21 days after sowing for all soil types.
  • Do not apply if wind speed is high.
  • Do not walk on wet fields after irrigation; weeds can germinate from disturbed soil.
  • Do not use metallic utensils for preparing the stock solution.
  • Wear proper protective clothing viz. mask, goggles, gloves and boots while handling the product.

Antidote
No specific antidote is known. Provide symptomatic treatment.
Precautions

  • Use PPE during application. Refer to the product label before use. Field should be uniform, well prepared and free from clods and residues of previous crops.
  • Application should be done within 0-3 days of sowing. Application should be done using Flat Fan nozzle fitted boom or PI Spray Machine.
  • Ensure thorough application on soil surface using water volume of 200 litre for 1 acre.

  • Wash hands and contaminated cloths with soap and plenty of water after application.
  • Avoid contamination of air and water bodies with the herbicide.
  • Do not apply as sand mix/ fertiliser mix.
Mode of Action

  • Pyroxasulfone treatment drastically reduces the biosynthesis of very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) and causes a build-up of fatty acid precursors.
  • Pyroxasulfone specifically inhibits many elongation steps catalyzed by VLCFA elongases.
